9. Morning Headaches
Why it happens: In advanced lung failure, carbon dioxide builds up overnight, leading to morning headaches, grogginess, and poor sleep quality.
How it feels: Patients wake up feeling foggy or with dull headaches that improve during the day.
Medical Tests:
- ABG (PaCO₂ >45 mmHg): Indicates hypercapnia.
- Polysomnography: Detects sleep-related breathing issues.
- Capnography: Continuous CO₂ monitoring.
